1. S Family – One of the last logo designs for me was to create a logo for the new product line that was to be a new step in sheet cymbals for Zildjian. The goal was to create a logo that would stand with the other cymbals in the others series. Based on the A Zildjian logo, this logo was a long road of working with Craigie for the right angle that made this cymbal a Turkish S and not a snake. The big story was after a licensing snafu, we found out that another cymbal company already had the S family of cymbals. An expensive price to pay for an international oversite.

2. Z3 – My first major cast cymbal line was to be the next evolution in rock cymbals to move on from Z Custom. Though the BMW was a concern for us. They had moved firmly to the Z4 sports car and it was less of a concern. My goal was to again have it keep the Zildjian Z but incorporate a unique inverse of the 3. A 3 that also had to sit with the legendary Z. This one is my personal favorite and we did an interactive flash site that was all popular way back then.

3. Pitch Black – Designed to be played “loud”. The Pitch Black cymbal was my first cymbal line that was for a youth audience and they had a unique look. The color black on the cymbals was the first part. This cymbal was originally called Black Label and that is why the logo has a label-like look. But after a letter from Black Label Society, we had to switch to Pitch Black. Unfortunately, the logo was already down the road and we had to keep the design but change the words.

4. Spiral Trash – This was a single unique cymbal that was my very first logo. This would end up being created in many sizes and was a great experience to start learning how the print plates were made and how the pad/ink process to print on the cymbals. I also had one week to create it.

  1. Avedis – One of the last logos and it was less about designing but more of an honor. The man who brought Zildjian to the United States, Avedis Zildjian III was what this cymbal line was about. His signature was scanned and used to create the logo. Very little but clean-up was done to capture the real signature.
